Description
Driving from Pommard to Meursault on the Route de Beaune, the village of Volnay will be on your right. Just past La Chapelle on the left will be Premier Cru vineyard ‘Champans’. It’s quintessential Volnay. Stony with red brown soil that drains well with underlying Oxfordian limestone and marl, results in delicate persistent wines with beautiful faint structure. “Here too there is a mentholated top note to the slightly jammy nose of black cherry and raspberry. The slightly bigger and richer medium-bodied flavors possess a slightly finer mid-palate texture as well as more refined tannins on the nicely persistent finale. This needs to develop better overall depth but the underlying material appears to be more than capable of allowing that to happen.” Burghound 90 Points
